Beam Molds Painted

I got these back from the paint shop yesterday. Darren used some excess paint from one of his auto jobs to paint the molds with a base coat then a clear coat. They turned out really nice.

All packed up and stored in the basement for use later on.

  1. You are doing a beautifully detailed job on an ambitious project. What materials are used in the beam construction? Are fiberglass and carbon layers mixed? Or is it all carbon or all fiberglass? How many layers are used ? Thanks

  2. Hello there - The actual beam construction won't start for a while. I'm just getting some side jobs done while waiting for the boat shed to be ready for use. (Next March). The beam construction itself consists of several layers of Fiberglass and Carbon according to the boat build plans. I plan on building five beams. Four for actual use and one as a "scratch" copy to work out the kinks on fabric layout, curing & etc. I'll just use some cheaper materials on that one, but the beams are absolutely critical and I want to make sure things are coming together as the designer intended. Big learning curve for me starting next year! Keep in touch. db
